Sacramento Valley
Regional Information about California Produce
The Sacramento Valley region is made up of the nine most northern counties of the Great Central Valley of California.
The climate ranges from mild winters with some frosts in the southern part of the region to colder winters with multiple frosts in the north. Rainfall is generally lower than is true of its northern neighbors and summers are warm to hot throughout the region.
It is here that the bulk of California's rice crop is produced. Other important field and vegetable crops include grain corn, safflower, sugar beets, oats, processing tomatoes and wheat. This area is also home to the production of a number of different fruit and nut crops such as kiwifruit, olives, pears, prunes, walnuts and almonds.
